Glow and Go: My Experience with Vitamin C

By

This December, I stayed completely cold- and flu-free, and I credit it to one simple daily habit: drinking a packet of Vitamin C Emergen-C mixed in a bottle of water. Over time, this routine has not only boosted my immune system but also revealed unexpected benefits.

One thing I noticed is that my face started looking more plump and refreshed. Curious, I researched Vitamin C’s role and learned it promotes collagen production—a key factor in keeping our skin firm, youthful, and vibrant. Collagen strengthens the skin, improves elasticity, and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. It also helps maintain hydration, giving the skin a healthy, radiant glow. It turns out that the same Vitamin C protecting me from colds is also enhancing my skin’s health.

Vitamin C’s benefits don’t stop there. It’s a powerful antioxidant that shields cells from damage caused by free radicals, which can speed up aging and contribute to chronic diseases. It also aids in absorbing iron, helping maintain energy levels and preventing anemia. These little packets have truly transformed my view of Vitamin C’s value.

On the other hand, a deficiency in Vitamin C can cause noticeable issues, such as fatigue, weakened immunity, and dry skin. In severe cases, it can lead to scurvy, which affects gums, joints, and overall healing. Knowing this makes me even more committed to my daily Vitamin C routine—it’s a small habit with big results.

This journey has taught me that taking care of your health often brings unexpected rewards. Not only do I feel better physically, but my confidence has grown, too. The link between small changes and profound benefits is incredible.

Quick note about my picture: I snapped it while still in bed, and my eyebrows aren’t perfect. But I wanted to share something real and personal—it’s all part of the process.

I started taking lots of vitamin C when I had anemia. I found out, like you mentioned that if taken together with iron, it helps the body absorb the iron better. I noticed that I wasn’t getting sick either, even though people around me at work and my family at home were sick. I take a different vitamin C and double the amount.
I wasn’t aware it was helping my skin too! No wonder people tell me I look better. Evy, your skin looks even toned and plump! Keep it up!

Great information! Thought I’d add a few more keys points. Along with playing an essential role in collagen formation, vitamin C also happens to be the basis of bone mineralization. Collagen (plus calcium) makes bones strong and flexible enough to withstand stress/ weight bearing. According to the Mayo Clonic, Vitamin C can also aid in improving your mood and in some cases reducing anxiety.
On the flip side… too much of anything isn’t good for you. Symptoms of too much Vit C (exceeding 2000mg/day):
    Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
    Heartburn.
    Stomach cramps or bloating.
Fatigue and sleepiness, or sometimes insomnia.
    Headache.
    Skin flushing.
