Grooming in Gaming: The Silent Danger Lurking Online

By

In today’s digital world, gaming platforms and podcasts have become a hub for discussions—but not all conversations are harmless. Recently, popular streamer DJ Akademiks was criticized for making highly inappropriate comments to a 15-year-old boy during a gaming session. His remarks crossed a serious boundary, reinforcing the dangers of unchecked toxic masculinity in online spaces.

This issue extends beyond one incident. Too many men feel entitled to impose inappropriate conversations on young boys, believing they are “teaching” them about manhood. However, real manhood isn’t about reckless talk—it’s about respect, accountability, and knowing when to stay in your lane.

Everything starts with a conversation. And conversations plant thoughts. If a child lacks a strong moral or spiritual foundation, those thoughts can take root and influence them in negative ways. No adult should take it upon themselves to introduce minors to explicit or personal topics, especially under the guise of “education.”

If you’re a parent, be mindful of who your child is speaking to online. Predators don’t always come in obvious forms; sometimes they’re familiar voices that overstep boundaries in ways that seem “normal.”

A piece of wisdom says, “A wise person sees danger and takes action, but the fool keeps going and suffers for it.” Protecting young minds means setting clear boundaries. If something feels off, trust your instincts and step in.

Let’s hold men and women accountable for the way they interact with young kids and teens. Conversations shape minds, and the wrong ones can lead to irreversible damage.
